Isn't slippers a collective noun?

and is made plural by adding " pairs" to make it plural?

Isn't slippers a collective noun?
Yes and no

By this I mean that you have a pair of slippers -This is collective

Eg A pair of slippers is on the mat.

While, slippers by itself is not collective

Eg. The slippers are very dirty.

In this example, you could be talking about many pairs of slippers.
Reply:yes
Reply:No its a plural of the noun slipper.

You can have one slipper as well as two slippers.
Reply:No, because you can have a single slipper.

Or three, or five... slippers.

Or one pair. In which case, "pair" is a collective noun, not "slippers"
Reply:Sure. Like in the pocket of my pants- no, in my shorts- there are my scissors.
Reply:Slippers is a plural noun. You don't buy a slippers, you buy a PAIR of slippers. Pair is collective.
