How do i train my dog to fetch my slippers?

i leave my slippers in the same place everyday

????

How do i train my dog to fetch my slippers?
You can use this method with clicker or training stick methods . . . or you could also use as is just described (if your dog is food motivated) . . . it assumes your dog knows or has idea of FETCH but not naming objects:

1. Get some treats and show them to doggie (don%26#039;t give them just yet).

2. Throw slippers and then say %26#039;Fetch Slipper%26#039; (some dogs don%26#039;t understand 2 word or even 2 syllable commands, so you might want to try Fetch Shoe, or just Shoe)

when dog fetches praise and reward,

3. Keep on doing this until dog is fetching consistently

4. Then reward intermittently.

The idea is that if your dog knows the fetch command already, you wanna teach him the Slipper word also.

Then you%26#039;ll want to train your dog to FIND slipper . . .

5. Leave slippers near door

6. Show slippers to dog (have you taught him %26#039;look%26#039; command? or just point to slippers)

Walk a few feet away and:

7. Say %26#039;Fetch Slipper%26#039; or %26#039;Slipper%26#039; or what command you used.

8. Praise and reward.

Repeat until dog does this consistently, everyday, then start rewarding intermittently

9. Then start moving further and further away from the slippers as well . . . one step at a time . . . day by day

10. Until the first day you show slippers (look command or just point) and walk till you are one step out of site from slippers and say %26#039;Fetch Slippers%26#039; or command. When dog fetches reward.

DO NOT CHANGE POSITION OF SLIPPERS UNTIL stage 10 is reached and practiced consistently. Then you can start %26#039;tracking%26#039;/scent discrimination training . . . this is advanced training used for getting X.CD title oand UD champion title. But if you leave slippers in same place always this is not necessary.

DO NOT USE DIFFERENT SLIPPERS or SHOES. . . use the same one through this trainig (or exact same replacement that has your scent at very least).

You can start training scent discrimination (known as tracking) after this . . . this is tracking training for X.CD or Utility Champion Dog training . . . look it up. Go slowly, this will take several weeks or months, the idea is that the dog fetches slipper CONSISTENTLY before going onto stage 5 (and knows the slipper or shoe word)

hope this helps

P.S. Ignore comments about %26#039;dog slavery%26#039; etc etc. Fetching and training is a great way to keep your dog%26#039;s mind active . . . I might not want to WEAR the slippers, but if it stops my dog from getting dementia (and training limits dog mental deterioration in old age) I%26#039;d do it and it improves bond between you and dog and is fun. A dog is not a human . . . it is a canine and is genetically predisposed as a pack animal. It is CRUELER to limit your dog%26#039;s ability to LEARN and COMMUNICATE and BOND with you. (sorry for the rant . . . I get people telling me to stop basic training with my dog as %26#039;a dog is not a robot%26#039; and %26#039;shouldn%26#039;t have to obey commands%26#039; . . . despite the fact that a %26#039;down stay%26#039; and perfect %26#039;recall%26#039; means I can walk and play off leash with my dog and saved my dog from running onto road and getting killed!).
Reply:all you gonna get that way is chewed up slippers my friend.

practice fetch the ball and then rewards and praise. Then throw the slipper, ( not at dog)lol
Reply:you take the slipper wave it at it then throw it somewhere and see if it does anything.
Reply:Fetching your slippers might seem like a one-step process to you, but to your dog, it is not. To your dog, the process consists of finding the correct object (the slippers), picking them up, carrying them, and bringing them to you - four separate steps that need to be taught separately.

What method of training do you use? Do you use a clicker? Target stick? Etc.

I would recommend you pick up the book, %26quot;The Only Dog Trick Book You%26#039;ll Ever Need%26quot; by Gerilyn Bielakwiewicz, to help get you started. It%26#039;s an inexpensive book ($8) and will teach you the basics of breaking tasks down into simple steps, and also tell you how to teach them using positive reinforcement.
Reply:well why you want to use youre own slipppers shoes for youre dog to chew on or ran at it . well you can also try to use something else like toys and ball or get youre dog a cool frisbee .
Reply:wash your stinky feet more. I know your dog will eat some nasty stuff, but put your stinky slippers in his mouth? I don%26#039;t think so.
Reply:just keep practicing and gradually your dog will fetch them.. every time the dog fetches it give it a treat.... or you can send them to a trainig camp! thats what we had to do for my beagle..

it took three weeks. then we he came back. he did whatever we told him to do.. just dont send them if there less than 3 weeks..

hope this helps
Reply:%26gt;:(

a dog is not a personal slave it is a companion meant to be loved and to love back you have feet learn how to use them
